steel and spellcraft, sword & planet
aka Brown-Ant's Spurious Theory about the Origin of Man on Earth as told by the new Battlestar Galactica tv series.

The first half: The Verdict of the Trial of Gauis Baltar. ZzzzZzzzz. No real surprises there. Kinda anti-climactic really.
Mr. Adama had it right on the money (and I'm paraphrasing here): We (humanity) are a gang.  We, the Mob, don't like you, Gauis Baltar. You're Arrogant. You're a Coward. We are going  to hang our own sins and blemishes upon you and toss you out of an airlock and hope that makes us feel better about ourselves.

And here is where I put my own spin on things: Gauis Baltar reminds us, the ugly mob, of  just how ugly we can be. Under a veneer of civilisation and politness - we can be pretty  damn selfish and inhumane.

Now the second half: I could barely breathe. Kudo's to the Ronald D. Moore and the writing  team, the director and to the wonderful composition of the show's music wizard: Bear McReary. Nice. Thank you for introducing me to a wonderful arrangement of a great piece of rock music (Along the Watchtower).

Here is my "Spurious Theory"
The new Battlestar Galactica (nBSG) saga happened in the distant past. OUR distant past.  This idea isn't something I that I came up on my own. I had thought about it and so have  hundred million other geeks out there. (Actually, I am more partial to the other theory  that nBSG is set far, far into our future but that is a different rant for another day.)

The Galactica and the ragtag human fleet will eventually reach Earth.
Remember - this is where you first heard about it, folks.
